All year long, you've been hearing about that one tablet. Just doesn't let up, you know what I mean? That right. Amazon's Kindle tablet. And not to be outdone, Nook Color 2 is on the way as well.
A couple of interesting stories today given a slow mobile week. Sure, we got some tablet news in a far away land about tablets that may not come to the US at all. So, the biggest news has to do Kindle and Nook.
Nook Color 2, NC2 is on the way as well and Barnes and Noble is playing the Apple game and selfishly not tell us anything about it. I don't know what the NC2 can offer over the current model other than better specs. So far, we haven't seen BN make any moves towards getting its own music and video content. Not sure how given that it is still losing money as its brick-and-mortar operation is still losing more money than its digital venture can growth. And ebook sales has been the saving grace for BN.
Now, about Kindle tablet. Techcrunch has a very extensive post about Amazon's own 7" tablet that will come in pretty low at around $250. I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out even lower. From the looks of it, the Kindle tablet will compete more directly with NC2 than anything else.
I look forward to both but I admit I am pretty partial to Barnes and Noble so they still have a local store that I can visit.
Both tablets run their own variant of the Android OS but without official Google support. I kinda like that. This kind of purposeful fragmentation I can support.
As for the TC post with details about the Amazon tablet, it just reads too much like they pooled all the rumors and details that we do know and put it all together. Nothing about UI, battery life, specs, etc. Still a good read on what we can expect if you're behind in all that.
